Our favorite notions
One administrative note before we jump in with our newsletter of notions. We will be closed for the Christmas/New Year holiday from Dec 19 - Jan 5. We will reopen Thursday, Jan 6.
This week we want to share a few of our favorite notions. They all would make great gifts to yourself or someone special. If you're like us, you can't have too many pairs of scissors. Unfortunately, we notice prices of these scissors have increased so when we restock the new scissors will be more expensive.
Karen K Buckley scissors are our workhorse scissors. The first three pairs shown below all have a serrated blade. This special blade pulls the fabric into the scissors rather than pushing it always like traditional scissors. Things you will like about these scissors...cushioned handle, easy for right or left hander to use, blades sharp to the very tip, serrated blade keeps fabric from fraying, light weight and comfortable.
The next three pairs of scissors are also made by Karen K Buckley and are multipurpose or utility scissors. They are great for cutting templates (freezer paper, Templar), fabric and fabric with fusible stabilizers. The blades are stainless steel. The handles have the same soft, ergonomic grip as our other Perfect Scissors. They cut sharp to the point and come with a plastic protective cover. Great for both right and left hand cutting.
We received some new needle minder designs: Barnyard Party, Blackbird, Pansies and the Folkart Willow Tree. To see all the needle minders we have available, please visit our website https://www.sewgracefulquilting.com/
$9.50 each
With the start of a new year, how about exploring new applique techniques? One of Kay's favorite techniques involves the use of Apliquick tools. With these tools and a little practice you'll be able to get perfectly smooth turned applique shapes. Includes 2 rods - both are pointed on one end; one has a forked end; one has a flat beveled end. Made of surgical steel. $42 per set
The photo below is an example of a project made using the Apliquick tools.
We recommend the Hugs and Kisses Applique Paper for use with the Apliquick rods. Kay has used several brands of applique paper and said she gets the best results with this brand. Each package contains 20 sheets. $23.95
While we're on the subject of learning new techniques.....maybe you've been itching to learn rug punching. If so, we have punches. We have both the #10 which is 1/4" and the #14 which is 1/8". Both are made by the Oxford Company - $38.95 each
The OESD Perfect Pressing Cloth is perfect for pressing your finished applique, embroidery or cross stitch project. Press puckers out of embroidered fabrics. Prevents embroidery texture from getting crushed. Absorbs steam to set a perfectly pressed finish. Use over and over
Use it like a traditional press cloth – place project right side up on ironing surface and place press cloth over the top of the project. Try using the Perfect Embroidery Press Cloth with quilt blocks – the texture of the press cloth is perfect for accommodating bulky seams. 20" square - $5.99
We also have gift certificates available in any amount.
This week for our "when it's gone, it's gone" section we are featuring a really cute wall hanging. Your $36.95 Bear and Snowman kit includes the pattern, Moda's Primitive Gatherings navy background fabric, wool for applique, borders and binding. Finishes 21 1/2" x 27 1/2"
We have a couple of patterns available if you'd prefer to use your own materials - $12.95
